Zuccarello, Bourque Sustain Concussions

It seems the concussion bug has moved from the Rangers to their AHL affiliate the Connecticut Whale, targeting Mats Zuccarello and Ryan Bourque.

According to Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang, Zuccarello sustained a concussion courtesy of Springfield Falcons’ forward Adam Mair this past Saturday. Mair was given a four game suspension for the brutal hit. The former MVP of the Swiss league said he’d be OK.

According to the Hartford Courant, Bourque hasn’t played since the third game of the season, and hasn’t skated for the past 12 days. Paul Doyle of the Courant said Bourque was feeling better, but there is no timetable for his return to action.

Concussions are no doubt the hot-button issue not only in hockey, but in all of professional sports. Scary to see so many players, especially in this organization, feeling the effects. Glad to see the AHL handing out a suspension for the Zuccarello hit.
