Christensen, who was picked up by the Rangers off waivers two years ago, hadn’t played since Dec. 17, and played just 20 games all season, tallying one goal and five points. He finished with 20 goals and 38 assists in 132 regular-season games for the Rangers.
Wellman, 24, will report to the Connecticut Whale (AHL). He has two goals and five assists in 14 games for the Wild this season. In the AHL, he has 14 goals and 12 assists in 26 games.
The writing was on the wall for Christensen, as it was only a matter of finding a suitor for him. His days in New York were over, as he has become an invisible player in the first 65 minutes of any game he plays in.
Christensen is a sad case; he has all the skill in the world but cannot figure it out mentally to put that skill to use. He’s a head-case, which is why he’s now going to be on his fifth team in the last five years or so.
