According to a Tweet by NHL.com’s Dan Rosen, Philadelphia Flyers goaltender and 24/7 superstar Ilya Bryzgalov said he will not be playing tomorrow afternoon against the New York Rangers in the Winter Classic from Citizen’s Bank Park.
Bryzgalov, who signed a nine-year contract this summer to give the Flyers a starting goaltender they’ve lacked since the days of Ron Hextall, has struggled lately, winning just one of his last five starts, giving up five goals in two of those games including four against the Rangers on Dec. 23.
“I have great news and even better news,” said Bryzgalov when asked if he was starting for the Flyers. “Great news: I’m not playing tomorrow night. Good news: We have a chance to win the game.”
It’s really hard not to like this guy, but if I was a Flyer fan, I’d be a little worried the guy the organization dealt Mike Richards and Jeff Carter to sign is almost laughing about being scratched for the Winter Classic.
