The NHL’s long arm of the law ruled today on the Rangers’ Andre Deveaux, handing the winger a three-game suspension following his elbow to the head of the Panthers‘ Tomas Fleichmann in Wednesday night’s 2-1 loss to Florida.
This was expected and pretty fair I suppose. Deveaux obviously isn’t a repeat offender, as he hasn’t played much in the NHL. I wouldn’t be surprised if his days with the Rangers are over following the suspension. The hit- which was very dirty- put the Rangers really behind the 8-ball Wednesday night. Derek Stepan had just made it a 2-1 games, and rather than building on the momentum, the Rangers had to kill off a five-minute major penalty following the elbow. There’s no need for those types of hits in the NHL, and no place for those who commit them.
Update: According to several reports, Erik Christensen and Anton Stralman scratches today, making way for both Mitchell and Hagelin to suit up. It will be Hagelin’s NHL debut. Jeff Woywitka will also dress in Stralman’s spot.
