Rangers Place Wolski on IR

Earlier today, the Rangers announced Mike Rupp was going to the IR. A few hours later, they’ve announced Wojtek Wolski will be joining him.

Wolski appeared to hurt his groin in Thursday’s 2-1 shootout victory over the Anaheim Ducks. He originally aggravated it in training camp, and missed a handful of games earlier in the year.

The injury bug is already biting, but luckily for the Rangers, all the injures have been to depth players (aside, of course, to Marc Staal). With Sean Avery filling in for Rupp, I’d expect either Mats Zuccarello or Carl Hagelin to be recalled. They may opt for Hagelin due to the small salary. If they recall Zuccarello, they’d more than likely be forced to place Staal on long-term injured reserve.
