It’s official. Sean Avery has been placed on re-entry waivers by the New York Rangers effective today at 12 pm. If Avery is not claimed by another team by noon Tuesday, Avery will be a member of the Rangers again, and could dress as early as Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks.
Henrik Lundqvist said he had texted Avery several times, and that he is very excited at the possibility of re-joining the team, though a lot could happen by tomorrow.
Head coach John Tortorella said he still supported the decision to send Avery down before the season, but said calling him up is the right decision, especially with the potential injury to Mike Rupp, who’s knee is “a concern.”
