Some quick roster moves for this Sunday afternoon as the Rangers prepare to host the San Jose Sharks tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden.
Erixon, who didn’t make the team out of camp but was recalled when it was determined Marc Staal would not be playing and Michael Sauer went down with a shoulder injury, went pointless in nine games with the team with a minus-2 rating.
Deveaux was one of the last training camp cuts before the team left for Europe in September. He is most known by Rangers fans as the player who was hit from behind by the Flyers’ Tom Sestito, which led to a small melee that ultimately led to Wayne Simmonds‘ alleged anti-gay slur towards Sean Avery. He has four goals and two assists thus far with the Whale.
Speaking of Avery, WFAN host and avid Rangers fan Boomer Esiason tweeted today that someone from within the Rangers organization informed him that Avery would be getting recalled by the big club. No writers have reported this, so I won’t give it too much attention, although I personally would be in favor of it.
For Erixon, he just wasn’t ready for the NHL yet, and I’m sure he understands it. The nine games he played here will go a long way towards his development, but some seasoning in the AHL will help him even more. Newbury for Deveaux seems like an even swap, though I would have preferred Zuccarello or Carl Hagelin get the nod over Deveaux.
