Rangers Recall Bell

12 hours after recalling Kris Newbury and demoting Mats Zuccarello to the AHL, the Rangers have recalled defenseman Brendan Bell today, according to the AHL transaction log.

Bell, 28, was one of the final cuts from training camp.

The Rangers will be carrying eight defenseman on their 10-day western Canada trip beginning Tuesday night in Vancouver.

This shows that Marc Staal is no where near ready to play, and that Michael Sauer‘s shoulder is still very questionable, leaving the Rangers with a very shotty defense at best. In all, though, the Rangers defensive corp.,, which consists of one rookie (Tim Erixon) and two “second year” players in Michael Del Zotto and Ryan McDonagh, along with journeyman Steve Eminger and waiver pick up Jeff Woywitka. As poor as that group sounds on paper, they’ve been pretty solid, with most of the poor start falling on the shoulders of the anemic offense.
