Zuccarello Fined, Wolski Sits

Some Rangers news tid-pits prior to today’s tilt with the Anaheim Ducks, who fell to the Buffalo Sabres, 4-1, yesterday in Finland.

The NHL handed winger Mats Zuccarello a $2,500 fine following his cross-check to Los Angeles King Kyle Clifford. Zuccarello seemed bump Clifford, sending him head first into the boards. It wasn’t a vicious hit by any means, as Clifford seemed to just lose an edge. Zuccarello is obviously a first-time offender, and no suspension is forthcoming.

The Rangers announced Erik Christensen would play today, taking the place of Wojtek Wolski, who the team says is feeling the affects of his groin injury in the preseason. Let’s read between the lines, though, and Wolski is getting scratched. He played very little in yesterday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Kings, and has already squandered his chance to play alongside Marian Gaborik and Brad Richards on the top-line.

Check back after the game for some reaction and [possibly] some quotes.
