According to the Philadelphia Daily News, the NHL next week will officially announce the 2012 Winter Classic game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers, slated for Jan. 2 at Citizen’s Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Sure, this isn’t exactly breaking news, but the NHL still has not confirmed the afternoon game is set to be the Winter Classic. According to a source, that will all change next week after the NHL and Citizen’s Bank Park finalize the deal.
“The event is just a unique one to the Phillies and it has taken time to go through the issues,” the source said.
Thanks to the lack of announcement, no ticket sales information has been released either, though the News said not only will Flyers season-ticket holders get early access to the game, Phillies season-ticket holders will as well, which doesn’t bode well for Rangers fans getting their hands on tickets for the historic game.
