Zherdev Signs in KHL

If you think you’re having deja vu, think again. For the second time in two years, Nik Zherdev is ditching the NHL for greener, bigger checks in the KHL. According to James Mirtle from the Globe and Mail, Zherdev has signed with the Atlant Mytishchi. Will update if any more details are released.

This is a guy who just couldn’t handle the NHL game, and is probably better off staying in Russia. Last time, he used the league as leverage to get back onto an NHL roster, but you have to think that was the last time an NHL team will give Zherdev a chance.

Zherdev, like other Russians not named Ovechkin and Datsyuk, took nights off during his time in New York, but was pretty effective. We’ll all remember fondly his goal in the dying seconds of a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, which force the game to overtime which the Rangers eventually won.

  1. Good luck to him, he needs a really break out year in Russia, if he wants to come back to NHL, and I’m sure he does. And when he comes back (I believe he will) he has to prove (yet again) that he belongs. After all he scored 16 goals playing average of 12:51 minutes per game in 56 games. If he played 82 it would be 24 goals at the very least. (With his talent he should score 30 per season at least but we all know how he disappoints fans). If there were any offers in NHL he should’ve take them of course. It would save him time but whatever, money is important too. He should have never reject that NYR offer. Playing under Torts would do tons of good for him…

I actually think the Rangers walked away from his arbitration ruling if i’m not mistaken.

I think he can maybe come back, but I think he has a poor reputation with GMs around the NHL. You never know what player is going to show up. It’s tough to give him big-time money.
