Rangers Add Fourth Game in Europe

The Rangers today announced a fourth European pre-season game against HC Slovan in Bratislava, Slovakia on Oct. 2. at 11 a.m. Eastern Time.

“HC Slovan Bratislava is proud to welcome one of the classiest NHL organizations to our arena at the beginning of the new season,” said HC Slovan general manager Maros Krajci in a statement. “Next season is an historic one in Bratislava, as we celebrate the 90th anniversary of playing hockey in our city.”

Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record (N.J.) points out, HC Slovan hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008 during Barry Melrose’s short-stint behind the bench. The Lightning went on to lose to the Rangers two-straight to open the regular season.

In addition to HC Slovan, the Rangers play three other exhibition games against European opponents:

Sept. 29- HC Sparta Prague, Prague, Czech Republic

Sept. 30- Frolunda Indians, Gothenburg, Sweden (Henrik Lundqvist’s former team)

Oct. 3- EV Zug, Zug, Switzerland

The team will open the season Oct. 7 in Stockholm, Sweden against the Los Angeles Kings, followed by a game against the Anaheim Ducks.
