Breaking: Richards Picks New York Rangers

Not a lot of information out yet, but according to several sources, free agent center Brad Richards has chosen the New York Rangers. The deal is reportedly for nine-years, $58.5 million ($6.5 cap-hit).

The former Dallas Star gave the Rangers a discount after he turned down a nine-year, $64 million deal from the Calgary Flames.

Last season, Richards scored 28 goals and 77 points in 72 games last season for the Stars. He’ll be reunited with head coach John Tortorella, with whom he won a Stanley Cup and named playoff MVP in 2004 as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

According to CapGeek.com, the Rangers have about $48.1 million locked in with players. The team still must sign RFAs Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Michael Sauer and Brian Boyle to contracts.
